AUGUST 2014
Program / Activity

Saturday, August 2nd  Nature Boat Cruise 9:15am – 11:15am.  Explore the far reaches of Lopez Lake on the ranger led boat tour. The two hour tour aboard the park's pontoon boat will include topics such as the natural and cultural history, the flora and fauna, and operational practices of Lopez Lake. Call the registration office at 788-2381 to sign up. $6 adults/$3 kids. 16 seat limit. Meet at the Marina. $10 park entrance fee.

Saturday, August 2nd Creepiest Crawlers Campfire Show  8:30pm - 9:30pm.  Join us at the Nature Center next to the Marina for our campfire show.

Sunday, August 3rd Escondido Spur Hike  10:00am – 12:00pm.  Come join ranger staff on this exciting hike and experience some of the most breathtaking views of the Santa Lucia Mountain range and Pacific Ocean. Strenuous hike. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water. Meet at the Wittenberg Arm Kiosk. Rain cancels event.

Tuesday, August 5th Movie Night  8:30pm - 9:30pm.  Enjoy a 40 minute nature movie while enjoying snacks and beverages provided by Friends of Lopez Lake. All proceeds from food sales benefit the park.

Wednesday, August 6th Predators of the Sky Guided Hike 10:00 - 11:00am.  Join the ranger for a guided nature walk to learn about the raptors in the park. Meet at the Wittenburg Arm kiosk.

Sunday, August 10th Owls are Master Hunters of the Night  8:30pm – 9:30pm. Bring the family, take a guided night hike and learn all about the owls in our park.  The hike will be moderate to easy.  Dress warm, wear sturdy shoes and bring water.  Meet at the registration office. Rain cancels hike.

Wednesday, August 13th Tracks and Scats Guided Hike 10:00 - 11:00am.  Meet at the registration office for a ranger guided hike. Learn about the animals in the park and how you can identify them. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water.

Saturday, August 16th Learn to Fish at the Lopez Lake Kids Free Fishing Clinic - 9:00am.  Bring the Kids (under 16) to the lake for a Free Fishing Clinic.  The clinic is held at the Nature Center near the Marina. Kids will be given lessons by an experienced angler on fishing ethics and conservation, knot tying, fish types and ecology as well as how to cast your line.  All equipment needed is provided and everyone gets a chance to fish.  Rain cancels event.

Sunday, August 17th Friends of Lopez Lake Monthly Meeting   10:30am - 11:30am. Show your support and share your ideas at the Friends of Lopez Lake monthly meeting.  Join the Friends after the meeting from 11:30am - 3:30pm to participate in their project work day. After the meeting participate in one of the many projects FOLL is working on or help keep Lopez Lake beautiful and pick-up shoreline litter.

Sunday, August 31st  Know Your Neighbors Plant ID Hike  10:00am - 12:00pm. Dust off the hiking boots and join us on this ranger guided hike to learn about the native plants in the park.  Moderate to strenuous hike.  Wear sturdy shoes and bring water.  Meet at the registration office. Rain cancels hike.

Starts at 8:00am Rain or Shine. Tiny Mile with Girls and boys divisions for 6 and under with a $15 race entrance fee. 5K and 10k races with various age divisions with a $25/$30 race fee. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each division will receive a medal. 2015 DATE TBA - Outdoor Discovery Festival
11:00am - 5:00pm come and discover the great outdoors with San Luis Obispo County Parks. Activities include Nature Boat Tours, Eco-Fair with exhibits and demonstrations, Arts & Craft activities and vendors. Live music entertainment will be happening throughout the day. If you like hiking, biking, kayaking and more. This is the place to be! It's a great family event and everyone is welcome. Day use fees are $10 per vehicle so make sure you carpool to this green event.
