Program / Activity

Saturday, May 16th Learn to Fish at the Lopez Lake: Kids Free Fishing Clinic 9:00-11:00am.  Bring the Kids (under age16 do not need a license to fish) to the lake for a Free Fishing Clinic.  The clinic is held at the Nature Center near the Marina.  Kids will be given lessons with an experienced fishermen on fishing ethics and conservation, knot tying, fish types and ecology as well as how to cast your line.  All equipment needed is provided and everyone gets a chance to fish.  Rain cancels event.

Saturday, May 16th Masters of the Night: Owl Call Hike 8:30pm-9:30pm  Bring the family, take a guided night hike and learn about the owls in our park.  The hike will be moderate to easy.  Dress warm, wear sturdy shoes and bring water.  Meet at the registration office. Rain cancels hike.

Sunday, May 17th Friends of Lopez Lake Monthly Meeting 10:30am-11:30am. Show your support and share your ideas at the Friends of Lopez Lake monthly meeting.  Join the Friends after the meeting from 11:30am - 3:30pm to participate in their project work day. After the meeting participate in one of the many projects FOLL is working on or help keep Lopez Lake beautiful and pick-up shoreline litter.

Saturday, May 23rd Smokey Bear Campfire Show 8:30-9:30pm Join us at the Nature Center next to the Marina for our campfire show. This Saturday opens the campfire show season with a special guest.

Sunday, May 24th Duna Vista Hike: Views, Photos & History 9:00am-12:00pm  Dust off the hiking boots and join us on this ranger guided hike boasting views of the Santa Lucia mountain range and Pacific Ocean.  Strenuous hike, wear sturdy shoes, and bring water.  Meet at the Wittenberg Arm kiosk. Rain cancels hike.

Sunday, May 31st Leafing the Park: Tree ID Hike 10:00am-12:00am. Join Ranger Ryan on an exploration of the trees in the park. Learn to identify trees by the shape, and structure of their little solar collectors we call leaves. Meet at the registration office.

Special Events

Saturday, May 9 - Outdoor Discovery Festival
10:00am - 5:00pm come and discover the great outdoors with San Luis Obispo County Parks. Activities include ranger lead Nature Hikes, DEER Challenge Activities for kids and adults, Eco-Fair with exhibits and demonstrations, and food vendors. Live music by Damon Castillo and Steppin' Out will be happening throughout the day. If you like hiking, biking, archery and more. This years event includes a Family Color Splash Fun Run and you'll have a chance to win a FREE Zip at the Vista Lago Adventure Park. PRE-REGISTRATION FOR THE FUN RUN IS REQUIRED! This is the place to be! It's a great family event and everyone is welcome. Day use fees are $10 per vehicle. Carpooling is encouraged for this green event and don't forget to make your camping reservations by calling (805) 788-2381. See you there!

Wednesday, June 10th Predators of the Sky Guided Hike10:00-11:00am  Meet at the Wittenberg Arm kiosk for a ranger guided hike! Learn how to recognize these awesome monarchs of the sky! Wear sturdy shoes and bring water.

Saturday, June 27th Night Sky Campfire Show 8:30pm - 9:30pm Join us at the Nature Center next to the Marina for our campfire show. Special guests from the Santa Barbara Astronomical Unit will be making a presentation, and they will have their telescopes set up for viewing the sky.

Sunday, June 28th Blackberry Spring and Turkey Ridge Loop Trail 10:00am-12:00am.  Come take a guided hike with a ranger to explore the trials in the park.  Moderate to Strenuous Hike.  Wear sturdy shoes and bring water.  Meet at the registration office. Rain cancels hike.

Special Events

Sunday, June 21st  June Bloom Fun Run - Starts at 8:00am Rain or Shine. Tiny Mile with Girls and boys divisions for 6 and under with a $15 race entrance fee. 5K and 10k races with various age divisions with a $25/$30 race fee. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each division will receive a medal. For registration information go to Active.com. Same day registration starts at 7:30am. Friends of Lopez Lake fund-raiser.
