APRIL
Program / Activity

Sunday, April 6 - Escondido Spur Hike - 10:00am - 12:00pm - Take an invigorating hike with a ranger and learn about the history of Lopez Lake. The hike is strenuous and boasts beautiful views of the lake and surrounding hillsides. Bring water and wear sturdy shoes. Meet at the Arboleda Group Day Use Area.n office at 788-2381 to sign up. $6 adults/$3 kids. 16 seat limit. Meet at the Marina. $10 park entrance fee.

Saturday, April 12 - Know Your Neighbors: Plant ID Hike10:00am – 12:00pm. Dust off the hiking boots and join us on this ranger guided hike to learn about the native plants in the park. This is a moderate to strenuous hike. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water. Meet at the Registration Office. Rain cancels hike.

Sunday, April 13 - Beginning Birding Hike - 1:00pm – 2:00pm Join the Ranger for a guided nature walk to learn about some of the showier birds in the park. Great hike for kids, or beginning birders of all ages. Meet at the Arboleda Group Day Use Area.

Saturday, April 19 - Kids FREE Fishing Clinic - 9:00am Bring the Kids (under 16) to the lake for a Free Fishing Clinic. The clinic is held at the Nature Center near the Marina. Space is limited please sign up by 9:30am. Kids will be given lessons with an experienced fisherman on fishing ethics and conservation, knot tying, fish types and ecology as well as how to cast your line. All equipment needed is provided and everyone gets a chance to fish. Rain cancels event.

Sunday, April 20 - Nature Boat Cruise 10:15am – 12:15am Explore the far reaches of Lopez Lake on the ranger led boat tour. The two hour tour aboard the park's pontoon boat will include topics such as the natural and cultural history, the flora and fauna, and operational practices of Lopez Lake. Call the registration office at 788-2381 to sign up. $6 adults/$3 kids. 16 seat limit. Meet at the Marina. $10 park entrance fee.

Saturday, April 26 - Duna Vista Exploration Hike - 9:00am - 12:00pm Dust off the hiking boots and join us on this ranger guided hike boasting views of the Santa Lucia Mountain range and Pacific Ocean. This is a strenuous hike. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water. Meet at the Wittenberg Arm Kiosk. Rain cancels hike.

Sunday, April 27 - Blackberry Spring and Turkey Ridge Loop Trail - 10:30am - 12:30pm Come take a guided hike with a ranger to explore the trails in the park. This is a moderate to strenuous Hike. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water. Meet at the Registration Office. Rain cancels hike.

Saturday, May 10 - Outdoor Discovery Festival
11:00am - 5:00pm come and discover the great outdoors with San Luis Obispo County Parks. Activities include Nature Boat Tours, Eco-Fair with exhibits and demonstrations, Arts & Craft activities and vendors. Live music entertainment will be happening throughout the day. If you like hiking, biking, kayaking and more. This is the place to be! It's a great family event and everyone is welcome. Day use fees are $10 per vehicle so make sure you carpool to this green event.

Sunday, June 22 - Friends of Lopez Lake Monthly Meeting - 10:30am - 11:30am. Show your support and share your ideas at the Friends Of Lopez Lake monthly meeting. Join the Friends after the meeting from 11:30am - 3:30pm to participate in their project work day. After the meeting participate in one of the many projects FOLL is working on or help keep Lopez Lake beautiful and pick-up shoreline litter.
TBA - Moonlit Horseback Ride - 7:30pm - 10:30pm The Black Bear Riders are hosting a ride on the Duna Vista Trail. Bring your horse and join the ride. Meet at the horse camp by 7:30pm. The equestrian division of Friends of Lopez Lake, Black Bear Riders, are having a Camp 'N Ride Invitational which includes the monthly Full Moon Ride and a Sunday morning brunch. Arrive on Friday and camp with us Friday and/or Saturday nights.This is a 'fund-raiser' gathering so your $20 per corral per day/night goes back to the BB Riders. Limit: 20 corrals. Learn who we are, how we help maintain the many trails and the horse camp at Lopez Lake while having fun with our horses.

Tiny Mile with Girls and boys divisions for 6 and under with a $15 race entrance fee. 5K and 10k races with various age divisions with a $25/$30 race fee. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each division will receive a medal.
